Hotelier Sue Williams triumphed at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2011-12 with success in three categories. As well as carrying off the award for Outstanding Achievement, Williams was also presented with a gold award for the Bath Priory and silver for Gidleigh Park.

Boutique contract caterer Artizian has won a Gold Eat Out Eat Well award from Surrey County Council for its healthy food offer at its operation at Canon in Reigate. Artizian, which won the £1.4m annual turnover contract from Sodexo in 2008, runs a staff restaurant, coffee bar, trolley service and hospitality at the electronics firm's Surrey headquarters.

The 34-bedroom Best Western Eglinton Arms, near Glasgow, has scored a double by being named the Best Small Hotel in the annual Best Western Hotel of the Year Awards for the second year running. The Best Western Beacon Trust gala dinner followed Best Western's 2012 conference at the Lancaster London hotel

McDermott's Fish & Chips in Croydon, Surrey, has won the title of Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year Award at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2012. Owned by Sean and Tony McDermott, McDermott's received its award from chef Richard Corrigan.

The search is on for the 2012 winner of the Olive Barnett Award, presented to dynamic young front-of-house staff. Supported by the Savoy Gastronomes and Springboard, the award - set up in recognition of Olive Barnett, who pioneered excellence at the Savoy - is aimed at hospitality staff under 30 years of age.

The British Culinary Federation (BCF) has announced the finalists of its 2012 BCF Chef of the Year competition. The 10 finalists were selected following a cook-off held earlier this week at the University College Birmingham. Competitors were asked to cook a three-course meal for two diners.

Sofitel London Heathrow is celebrating after being named Best International Airport Hotel at the 2011 Australian Business Traveller Awards. The hotel's location, the standard of its food and beverage facilities and the bedroom quality were key factors that helped the hotel secure the title.

Harrogate International Centre was the big winner at the Kudos "K" Awards, after two of its staff members picked up the employee and general manager of the year titles at the company's annual awards event, held last week. Kudos, the food and venue arm of the Crown Group, named Leah White its employee of the year.

Ode in Shaldon, Devon, has been named the UK's most sustainable restaurant by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA). The SRA's inaugural national awards, announced at London's Cinnamon Club today, recognised restaurants across seven categories covering all aspects of sustainability.

Seniors in Thornton, Lancashire, has been named the best British fish and chip shop in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2012. Run by brothers Alastair and Dominic Horabin, the shop beat 10 other regional finalists to win the national title in the annual competition, which is run by seafood authority Seafish.

Tom McLachlan has been named the De Vere Academy of Hospitality's National Chef of the Year. McLachlan, 24, beat 99 other apprentices to carry off the title. Following eight regional finals, he joined 15 young chefs in the final cook-off in London.

Cornish brewery Driftwood's beer "Alfie's Revenge" has today been crowned the Supreme Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2012 by a panel of judges at the National Winter Ales Festival in Manchester. The 6.5% ABV old ale is described in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide 2012 as a "strong and fruity, well-balanced premium ale".

Pride Catering has scooped a hat trick of silver Food for Life Catering Marks for its school meals work in the South-east. The caterer's contracts at Vineyard, Heathfield and Brookland schools - all in the South-east - were previously bronze. Pride now holds one gold, four silver and seven bronze catering marks.

Sarah Tobler, online marketing executive of London's Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel, has been named Young Marketer of the Year 2011 by the Hotel Marketing Association (HMA).
