The minimum wage rose from £5.93 per hour to £6.08 on Saturday, an increase of 2.5%. The minimum wage is decided each year by the Low Pay Committee (LPC). It was introduced in 1999 at £3.60 an hour for adults.

The TUC will tell the Low Pay Commission (LPC) to recommend raising the adult national minimum wage next year by 21p to £6.14 an hour when the two organisations meet on 1 November. The TUC will put the case to the LPC, which advises the Government on the minimum wage.
