London hotel Dukes in St James's has launched a new Cognac and cigar garden, as part of a newly refurbished outdoor area. Cigarette vending machines are one step closer to being banned from pubs and bars today, after MPs voted to make the machines illegal last night. The proposal was part of an amendment to the Health Bill put forward by Labour MP Ian McCartney and will now be voted on in the House of Lords.

The smoking ban has proved largely popular with the British public, as the unrest predicted by many has failed to materialise in the two years since its implementation. But with discussions within the industry already reigniting over whether changes should be made to the current legislation in the review next year, Caterer, in association with Heinz Foodservice, gathered together Lee Cash of Peach pubs, Ranald McDonald of the Boisdale restaurant and representatives of major lobby groups and the Government to discuss whether limits on smoking should be kept in their current form.
