Michelin's Tokyo guide gives Japan a total of 32 three-star restaurants

Michelin Tokyo 2012Japan has confirmed its position as the world's leader of gastronomy, with the news that Michelin has awarded a total of 32 restaurants in the country its top accolade of three stars. Michelin today released its 2012 guide to Tokyo, promoting three new restaurants to three stars.

Tsuru to open third outlet in the City

Tsuru to open third outlet in the CityLondon sushi restaurant group Tsuru is to open its third outlet in the capital, with the launch of a site near St Paul's in the City next week. Tsuru, which is co-owned by Kensuke Yamada and partner Emma Reynolds, currently operates two restaurants at Bankside and Bishopsgate and serves authentic Japanese food with a focus on sustainability.

Yoshinori Ishii becomes executive chef at London's Michelin-starred Umu

Yoshinori Ishii has joined Umu, the Michelin-starred restaurant in London's Mayfair, as its new executive chef. Ishii takes over from Ichiro Kubota, who was head chef since the opening of the restaurant in 2004. Ishii has 20 years' cooking experience.
