The City of London Police are considering evidence which suggested fraud took place at Von Essen Hotels, prior to the company going into administration with debts of more than £250m. Ernst & Young, who took control of the company on 20 April, have submitted a report to the police.

Daniel Cox, the former head chef at Roux at Parliament Square, is set to join Simon Rogan's research kitchen Aulis. Cox left Roux at Parliament Square - a collaboration between Michel Roux Jnr and Restaurant Associates - in July last year, just 10 weeks after the restaurant opened.

The Cadogan Estate has bought the Cadogan hotel in London's Sloane Street for £15.4m. The purchase from US-based Trinity Hotel Investors means that Earl Cadogan takes control of the property which bears his family name.

Stonegate pub company, which last year bought 333 pubs from Mitchells and Butlers, is to start showing horse racing in 135 of its pubs with Sky TV. The move follows a deal with horse racing channel Racing UK, and coverage will start this month in time for the Cheltenham Festival (15-18 March).

Travel concession operator SSP has landed a seven-year deal at London City Airport worth in excess of £60m. The contract, which begins on 1 April, will see SSP operate five cafés and restaurants: two new cafés that will begin trading by summer and three existing outlets.

Compass Group has formed a partnership with book retailer Blackwell's in a new five-year contract at Nottingham University. The contract, worth £2m in total turnover, sees the caterer's retail business operate a new Costa Coffee café within the Blackwell's bookshop in the university's Portland building.
