A school cook from Cheshire has beaten hundreds of competitors to win the Sodexo Chef of the Year title in a contest held at Hotelympia. Andrew Willcox, a chef at Cheadle Hulme School in Cheshire, was one of 10 finalists representing Sodexo’s healthcare, education, defence and corporate services divisions.

It has been a memorable couple of years for Kenny Atkinson. Northcote’s annual food and wine festival has just celebrated its 10th anniversary. Held at Lancashire’s renowned one-Michelin-star restaurant at Northcote hotel in Langho, Obsession stretched over 10 days (one day for every year of existence) and is considered by chefs to be the best of its kind in the UK.

Last Friday saw the rather unexpected release of the results of the 2010 Michelin Guide for Great Britain & Ireland, which were unveiled five days ahead of schedule after online retailer Amazon accidentally shipped copies of the guide ahead of its publication date.

A host of chefs and restaurants will be at Excel, London to take part in seasonal food festival Taste of Christmas on 4-6 December. The wintertime sibling to the summer’s Taste of London, this gastronomic extravaganza will host 18 of London’s top restaurants all of whom will showcase their signature dishes.

Apprentice chef Stephanie Olliff, picked up three gold awards and took the Sodexo Apprentice Chef of the Year title at the catering giant’s salon culinaire event last week. The salon, held at Ascot, saw a record number of entries this year from Sodexo chefs across the UK and Ireland.
