Hi there,

I'm the news editor at Caterer, which gives me a great overview of what is going on around the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, it also means that I am the contact for every public relations bod under the sun desperately trying to get their client into the magazine....

But before I begin ranting, a little background. I have been a business journalist for more than six years, working on an IT title and one covering HR before joining Caterer last August. So, as you can imagine, covering an industry as interesting as hospitality is great for me.

While I can't claim to be as refined a "foodie" as many of my Caterer colleagues, I like to think I know a good meal when I see one. Especially if someone else is paying (first subtle hint).

My real passion is sport, in particular football and cricket. So, in a tenuous link with what we are supposed to be writing about, I thought I'd share my thoughts on catering at football grounds.

It's horrendous right? At Spurs, where I have a season ticket, the offering seems to consist of grey burgers (whether chicken or beef) and undercooked chips. And don't get me on to the staff.

But it seems that some clubs are getting it right. Apparently, Kidderminster Harriers are setting the standard. They have freshly-prepared home-made soups, vegetable curries, and other items more often found in an upmarket restaurant than a football ground bar. Club caterer Brian Murdoch actually serves a wider range of food to away fans because they have travelled further and spend more money.

We salute him!

Have you had any wonderful culinary experiences in unexpected places? Let me know....
