Champagne corks popping at Caterer..

No, it's not just another afternoon for the alcoholic journalists on the team... great news from Whitehall as the government rules out implementation of a bed tax, just hours after the Lyons Inquiry recommended a consultation on the issue.

It's certainly been a busy week on the bed tax front. On Tuesday, a BBC leak suggested the report was going to propose the bed tax. Then this morning, the official report was released, stopping short of a full proposal, instead recommending a consultation on the issue.

A few hours later, and the bed - or tourist - tax was ruled out by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Phew.

Obviously we'd like to take all the credit here at Caterer for the "Say No to Bed Tax" campaign, but the weight of feeling from all parts of the industry clearly played a part in the government's decision.

Drinks all round then!
