The launch of Elior's venue finding service, Venue-Elior, at the impressive Lloyds of London building was, aside from a few technical gremlins (remember caterers, never feed them after midnight!) a slick affair.
Speeches by Elior head Mike Audis and venue project leader Ray Santamaria set the scene well and the rolling video of the 40 venues available to book through Venue-Elior around the country was impressive.
However, one potential venue did make me stop mid-quaff of my complimentary drink for a double-take.
Maybe it's just me but see if you can spot it from this list of places to hold your event:
Edinburgh Castle, Hampton Court Palace, Kempton Park Racecourse, Rangers Football Club, Lloyds of London, Harewood House, Sadler's Wells, the Royal Air Force Museum, the Orangery at Kensington Palace, Southwark Cathedral, Waterstones at Piccadilly....Waterstones!
Well as a Caterer journalist I couldn't let that one lie and asked the Elior bods about the seemingly out of place bookshop.
The fair-enough explanation was that as well as its convenient central London location the bookshop has an impressive chef demonstration kitchen in the basement. Ideal for a caterer such as Elior and no doubt, thanks to its main business use, a fair few cookbooks to hand for inspiration (and one of those strange Costa cafes inside).
A case of not judging a book(shop) by its cover, perhaps?
