Clean Kitchen Awards: beyond the pail

AthenaLambricateringmanagerBS.jpg

Everyone likes to win stuff.

That's why we have the yearly nonsense of the Oscars, the banality of the Soap awards (most gormless twit) and the jewel in the crown of them all, the Cateys (be warned high-spirited penguins expected around Grosvenor House hotel in London next Tuesday).

And so to last week's ACE conference on sustainability, which fittingly for a catering conference had its Clean Kitchen Awards but alas no Jessica Alba, Naomi Watts or Salma Hayek in sight (although there was former track star Roger Black on hand to swoon over).

Anyway, Alan Osborn's T.W.O. Services sponsored the awards and the dream team of ex ACE chairman Norman Deas and HMS's Geoff Ward had the delightful task of peering into 18 scary kitchen corners, up extraction manifolds and under work surfaces.

The result was three winners who were in reverse order: Bartlett Mitchell at Canada Life; Sodexho's Directors Table at ING; and winner, BaxterStorey (BS) at ICI.

Although there were cash prizes for all to spend on kitchen equipment at their respective contracts, the winning team at BS have let it be known that they'll be giving their £2,000 to charities Community Links and the Zambuko Community Library Project.

Proof without doubt that caterers are a good bunch and the BS team must work in a newly fitted kitchen.

Jessica is one of my favorite celebrity, I am unable to really image Jessica carrying child, she sure is the most beautiful mum on planet!

It takes real intelligence to appreciate that everyone is different and everyone is similar at the same time. This sort of paradoxical considering is outdoors the realm of 95% of people; you included apparently.
