Watch out for bogus dry-cleaning bill

dry-cleaning.JPG We were contacted earlier this week by London’s Galvin Bistrot de Luxe about a letter requesting payment for a bogus dry-cleaning incident.

And after putting up a news story on the Caterer website, we discovered Galvin wasn’t the only victim of this sham.

The restaurant recently received a letter asking it to reimburse a £7 dry-cleaning bill after a waiter apparently spilt drink on a diner’s shirt and promised the restaurant would cover any costs. The bill was sent with a letter requesting reimbursement to be sent to Shipu Miah at an East London address.

Galvin Bistrot de Luxe’s communications manager Clare Gorry told us that the restaurant logs all of these type of accidents and there was nothing reported on this on the given date, neither were there any records of the guest ever visting the restaurant.

She said: “It is clearly a photocopy that they send to hundreds of restaurants.”

After posting a news story on the website about this, we were also contacted by London restaurant Tamarind, with restaurant manager Jespal Soor saying: “We had exactly the same letter from the same person.

“We sent the gentleman a letter asking for more details of his booking and when I didn't receive a reply I realised that it was a scam.”

So London restaurants beware – if you get a letter from the ominous Shipu Miah, be sure to question the incident before making any payment and to let Caterer know about it.

Sounds like a nightmare, since in some instances customers might not complain about spills and stains on the night, so restraunts wouldn't have a record.

Maybe Mr Miah is a straight up honest guy but he's just a messy eater who goes to a lot of restraunts (LOL).

dry cleaning is a good business..but for those who use it as a scrap..you should stop this!
