Food for thought

It must be a nightmare for caterers to put together a menu that appeals to the majority of tastes, is adequately labelled and takes in to consideration food allergies...especially if they are imagined.

According to a report by food diagnostic company YorkTest, some three million Brits are suffering from imaginary food intolerances. Hypochondriacs admitted in the survey to changing their diets after self-diagnosing on the internet, while one in 50 claim to have noticed their 'condition' after observing their friends' symptoms.

What's more, a further 39 per cent said they thought it was trendy to be intolerant to certain foods and blamed celebrities. One has only to look at the range of celebrities who claim to have allergies to see why this may be the case. Actress Rachel Weisz for instance has a well-publicised wheat intolerance, TV presenter Carol Vorderman a gluten one, and Rod Stewart's former wife, Rachel Hunter, a lactose intolerance.

No one is claiming all cases are false, but it might be an idea for people to get properly tested at a company like YorkTest to ensure they are not unnecessarily missing out on good food.

As a spokesperson for www.yorktest.com, said: "Food intolerances are on the increase but it's worrying to think that many sufferers have never actually been tested or diagnosed."

Thanks for publishing about this. There's a mass of great information on the www. You got a lot of good info here on your site. I'm impressed - I try to keep a couple blogs somewhat live, but it's a struggle sometimes. You've done a solid job with this one. How do you do it?

50 Cent is the man. Great musician, but on top of that he's also an amazing media personality and self promoter.
