Jamie Oliver may not be to everyone’s taste but no-one can argue about his level of recognition.
So much so, that I can today reveal that “Jamie Oliver” has become an official metaphor.
The chef’s high profile push to improve the standard of school meals means everyone launching a campaign feels duty bound to refer to him, no matter how tenuous the link.
The latest call was from recruitment firm Bramall Construction, which is calling for a “Jamie Oliver-style representative to raise the profile and appeal of construction as a highly skilled career option for students”.
A quick Google search brings up a host of others, including outgoing children's laureate, Michael Morpurgo “calling for a Jamie Oliver-style campaign to get the government to put literature at the heart of education”.
Elsewhere, Scottish researchers demanded “a Jamie Oliver-style mastermind to help mental health in schools”, while David Brown, chief executive of the Institution of Chemical Engineers said science, engineering and technology would “benefit greatly, if they could find a Jamie Oliver-style role model”.
And despite Jamie’s Channel Four contract, the BBC was not slow to get into the act advertising a BBC2 show by referring to a “Jamie Oliver-style green energy makeover”.
Caterer is today launching a Jamie Oliver-style campaign calling on campaigners to use other public figures when demanding change.
It is called CAMOT - The Campaign for Original Thinking.
