"Hitler" pub sign sparks row

A Wirral pub manager has his hands full with locals over complaints that the outside pub sign resembles Adolf Hitler. _44226723_pubsignb%5B1%5D.jpg

The pub in Rock Ferry is named after former poet laureate John Masefield and features his portrait in the sign but, due to the unfortunate resemblance, locals have taken to nicknaming it "The Adolf".

Speaking to BBC News, the disgruntled manager Mr Walsh said: "That is what he looked like so the sign is to stay. We shouldn't penalise talented people simply because of how they cut their moustache."

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons, which owns the pub, said the portrait had been prepared in good faith and that the matter was "being considered very seriously".
