Do you deserve an Open For Dogs award?

Milestone-Hotel-Kensingtonb.jpgAre you top dog when it comes to welcoming guests with pooches into your establishment?

Or are they barking up the wrong tree if they think you'll let a man's best friend through the door?

The Kennel Club is running it's 'Open for Dogs' competition to find the UK's most dog-friendly businesses, including pubs, cafés, hotels, B&Bs and tourist attractions.

Customers can nominate places they think are pulling out the stops to accommodate their canine friends, with innovative services or simply a bowl of clean water.

Dog lovers can nominate venues in various categories including Somewhere to Eat, Somewhere to Sleep, Somewhere to Drink and Somewhere to Visit.

Winners will be announced after the closing date of 14th September and receive certificates and a Champion Dog Bowl, and all recommended venues will receive an Open for Dogs certificate and sticker.

However, I somehow think no one can top a certain hotel in London listed on Dogpeople, one of the competition's supporters, which enables its advertisers to list their dog friendly credentials. The message from the Rubens Hotel in Buckingham Palace Road reads, "Our Pet Concierge, Dave Brown, and his team will ensure your pet's needs are catered for in every way. Not only do we welcome pets but we have created the ultimate stay designed towards ensuring your favourite friend has the time of their lives."

Indeed a search of the hotel's website reveals a whole host of services for pampered pooches including food and water bowls with fresh mineral water, pet menu and floor mat; a 'Do Not Disturb/Pet Sleeping' card; a turndown treat; and, on check-out, a framed photo of the four-legged friend and certificate of their stay.

Sounds like the dog's bollocks to me...
