Pride of place in Tom Kerridge's new kitchen at the Hand & Flowers in Marlow goes to a beautiful bespoke island suite by French manufacturer Athanor. It cost £29,000 and the stainless steel chrome titanium alloy top gleams in the bright kitchen lights.
Besides an oven, holding cabinet, planchas and radiant hobs Kerridge insisted on a central gantry for storage of pots and pans much to the disapproval of fellow Michelin-starred chef Anthony Demetre of Arbutus and Wild Honey.
"Why would you have something so beautiful and bespoke and put a gantry on it?" he asks. "It's like buying a Ferrari and putting a roof rack on it."
Well if you put it like that...
