As charity dinners go, they don't get much better than this. Later this month, the lucky people of Waterlooville in Hampshire are going to have the culinary talents of Heston Blumenthal, John Campbell, Angela Harnett, Philip Howard and Marcus Wareing descending on their local college, South Downs.
The second event of its type (last year the college hosted Blumenthal, David Nicholls, John Williams and Jake Watkins), this dinner offers its guests "a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to enjoy the gastronomic experience of a lifetime, created by five of the world's finest chefs, who will be coaching and inspiring a team of talented students".
And that's the bit I really like. The food, without doubt, will be amazing, the dinner will raise much-needed funds for the Ark Foundation, a crucial arm of Hospitality Action, our industry charity, which focuses on educating the industry on the dangers of alcohol dependency and drug misuse.
But the experience that this will give the students of South Down College will probably be life-changing and I hope they enjoy every single 10-Michelin-starred minute of it.
Tickets are pretty much sold out, but if you're willing to pay a king's ransom for a place, I'm sure the dinner's creators, Ark consultant Peter Kay (CEO of the Tony Adams-founded Sporting Chance Clinic) and South Downs' head of catering Gerry Shurman, will find a way of squeezing you in. Donation: £200 per ticket (but they'll take much more!)
Ticket includes: Champagne canape VIP reception, fine wine to accompany each course, five-course gourmet dinner, momento dinner plate and "goody bag", the opportunity to meet the chefs and bid in the charity auction.
