This week's Restaurant of the Week is Corrigan's Mayfair, run by the Michelin-starred Irish chef Richard Corrigan.
The restaurant, which is located adjacent to the Grosvenor House hotel, opened last November in the site that once housed the iconic three-Michelin-starred Chez Nico at Ninety. Interiors are loosely based on a hunting lodge, a theme carried through by the menu which has a focus on wild foods and game at its core.
Crustacean and seafood play a central role at Corrigan's and the menu kicks off with native oysters and dishes including Cornish crab jelly with melba toast, octopus carpaccio and Corrigan's take on a bouillabaisse, a South Coast fish soup served with garlic mayonnaise.
Main courses are divided into meat and game, and fish sections, with the latter featuring dishes including butter poached smoked haddock with lobster and creamed parsnip; and steamed sole filet with ceps served in cooking juices.
But it's the game that's at the heart of Corrigan's Mayfair, notably a salad of game birds with romesco sauce (pictured); loin of rabbit with spinach and garlic purée; and game suet pudding with mashed swede and carrot.
Then there's a lamb kebab a la greque; ox cheek with mushroom ravioli and garlic leaf; and braised pigs trotter with pomme purée; all of which bear Corrigan's signature wild, gutsy style of cooking.
Desserts are equally rustic, with a homely yet sophisticated, modern touch and include a lovely and light rhubarb soufflé, a quince tart and a carrot cake with pickled walnuts.
The wine list is arguably one of the best written in London - full of stories and ideas and wonderfully unpretentious food and wine pairing suggestions.
With the iconic Lindsay House now officially closed, this Mayfair restaurant will no doubt continue to drive Corrigan's prestige as one of the capital's most acclaimed chefs.
