Developed within the 1920s neo-classical former post office building - designated a historical property by the Swedish state - the hotel incorporates a major extension which has been clad in slate and copper to match the original property. Situated in the southern-most tip of Chile, the hotel overlooks Lake Sarmiento to the mountain peaks of Torres del Paine National Park. While the exterior - with its weathered and worn fossil look - has been inspired by the wildness of the hotel's surroundings, the interior is intended to be luxuriously casual with natural materials evoking the outside environment.
The initiators of the Lloyd hotel and the LLove hotel in Japan have created a fashion hotel in the centre of Amsterdam, where the bedrooms are dressed like models on a catwalk by eight students of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. The owners of popular London restaurants Polpo and Spuntino, have opened their fifth site in Covent Garden. Mishkin's is inspired by New York's Lower East Side and east London's cafés, combining a "Jewish deli with cocktails" with art deco-inspired interiors.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has expanded his River Cottage brand with the launch of this restaurant at Plymouth's Royal William Yard. Housed in the Brewhouse building overlooking the Plymouth Sound, its aim is to source 90% of its food within a 50-mile radius.
Indian restaurant group Saffron has opened its third venue in the centre of Birmingham, a stone's throw from the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and Symphony Hall. Interiors feature a golden colour scheme next to baroque wallpaper, recycled bamboo and exposed brickwork.

The Archer Street bar in London's Soho opened officially earlier this month. It offers the atmosphere of a members' club but is open to everyone and boasts bar staff who occasionally break into song as they work. The cocktail menu includes a signature Dawa (a Kenyan drink translated as "magic potion") and Champagne in Yorkshire (made up of Champagne, gin, rhubarb liqueur and syrup).
Celebrated restaurateurs Chris Corbin and Jeremy King have opened their second restaurant in the capital. The Delaunay, which joins the Wolseley, is inspired by the grand cafés of central Europe, with the Delaunay Counter offering a take-out service.
