            <p><b>McDonald's</b></p>
            <p>McDonald’s employment philosophy is to attract the right people 
            for our business, then do everything we can to make sure they want 
            to stay with us. </p>
            <p>Our &quot;Hire the Smile&quot; programme encourages managers to recruit 
            based on attitude, not experience – an initiative recognised by the 
            Work Foundation and Investors in People as outstanding in creating 
            opportunities, especially for individuals from &quot;marginalised 
            communities&quot;. <br>
            <br>
            The Work Foundation have described us as a &quot;heavy lifter employer&quot; 
            in the service sector, thanks to our commitment to giving people 
            valuable skills that boost confidence and prospects. Add the fact 
            that 40% of managers and 30% of our executive team are women, it’s 
            clear that equal opportunities are high on our agenda.<br>
            <br>
            With a £14m annual training budget and facilities like a Corporate 
            University, career development is another focus. We’re proud that 
            80% of McDonald’s restaurant managers started out as hourly-paid 
            Crew members, and that a manager’s average tenure is 10 years. We 
            were delighted to be the UK’s first large company to be awarded the 
            Investor in People’s 2005 standard, making our training officially 
            best in class.<br>
            <br>
            <b>1. </b>&quot;Our Lounge&quot; – our innovative lifestyle and development 
            website – is a prime example of our training commitment. As well as 
            featuring film and book reviews, games and advice for parents, it 
            enables employees to plug their skills gap, supported by an online 
            tutor, then take nationally recognised qualifications in accredited 
            exam centre restaurants. The scheme’s convenience and benefits have 
            been praised by everyone from the Learning and Skills Council to the 
            CBI Director-General.<br>
            <br>
            We also recognise that the right working environment, working 
            patterns and work/life balance help people perform at their best, 
            with one initiative in particular showcasing our flexibility.<br>
            <br>
            <b>2. </b>The Family Contract is a UK-first innovation that allows 
            two family members working in the same restaurant to cover each 
            other’s shifts, without prior notice. Everyone from siblings, 
            parents, children and stepfamilies to cohabiting partners and 
            same-sex partners can sign up, with particular benefits for those 
            with dependants or significant commitments outside work.<br>
            <br>
            We encourage and reward hard work too, offering incentives like 
            holidays for exemplary performers. But equally important in a 
            diverse organisation are universally appealing benefits.<br>
            <br>
            <b>3.</b> Our Discount Card offers every employee discounts with 
            more than 100 leading companies, enabling them to save money on 
            things that matter to them, from driving lessons, holidays and days 
            out to iPods, CDs, computers and clothing.<br>
            <br>
            None of this is any use if it doesn’t engage and inspire our staff. 
            So we gain regular and detailed feedback through our independently 
            conducted Viewpoint survey<br>
