Caterer and Hotelkeeper has teamed up with the British Hospitality Association, the Tourism Alliance and Travelodge in a campaign to Say No To Bed Tax.

We are calling on the whole hospitality industry to voice its disapproval of a bed tax and join our campaign before it’s too late.

It isn’t only hotel operators that stand to suffer. Any hospitality business that depends upon visitors staying in local hotels, can expect a bed tax to have an impact on their bottom line.

Not only would a bed tax deter foreign visitors and reinforce Britain's image as an expensive destination, it would discourage British holiday-makers from holidaying at home.

As well as hitting hotels, it would also harm local pubs, restaurants, B&Bs and visitor attractions, which rely on visitors staying overnight in the local area.

For these reasons, we want everyone in the hospitality industry to register their support for our campaign to Say No To Bed Tax.

We'll collect all the letters of protest against a bed tax and deliver them to Sir Michael Lyons, the man considering allowing local authorities to levy a bed tax.

Caterer and Hotelkeeper Say No To Bed Tax campaign

I am signing this petition to register my support against a bed tax in the UK. I believe a bed tax would be disastrous for the UK tourism industry, hotel businesses and local economies that benefit from visitors staying in hotels in their area.

Tourists to the UK already pay a considerable amount in tax on accommodation – twice the European average. A further tax would only reinforce rip-off Britain’s image as an expensive holiday destination.

Making hotel and B&B accommodation more expensive would force more Britons to holiday abroad and increase the UK’s tourism budget deficit, which already stands at £16b.

I oppose any measures for a bed tax and ask Sir Michael Lyons not to consider this proposal any further,
