For those of you that are avid Masterchef fans, yesterday evening our very own Rob Hartwell was cooking for Michel Roux Jr in his quest to win the title.

In the first round Rob blew the judges away with a terrific steak dish and then went on to create two exceptional seabass dishes, but regrettably Rob came unstuck when preparing an artichoke and didn't make it through.

Although I'm biased I felt Rob deserved to go through, purely because of the quality of his Seabass dishes but it wasn't to be.

Lets hope some of the skills Rob picked up on his Acorn Scholarship trip to Asia and his stages working with Gordon Ramsay Holdings, John Campbell and Michael Caines helped him during the show.

Rob is currently enjoying running the kitchen at one of Peach Pub's award winning operations and loving every minute. The acorn scholarship really did change Rob's life and has helped him on his way to having his own restaurant in the future.

Welcome to the Acorn Scholarship blog Big Smile

This blog is dedicated to all those who have been involved with this awards since 2000 and here you can keep up to date with news of the current  and past winners as they progress through their career.

The Acorn Scholarship was set up to help create industry leaders of the future who would go on to win Acorn Awards and potentially be the Catey award winners of the future.  So far, the Scholarship has changed the lives (and careers) of seven winners and helped two of these winners achieve Acorn Awards.

The search is on for the 2010 Acorn Scholarship winner and entries will be open from 14 September 2009.

Now in its 8th year, the award seeks out young, talented individuals within the catering and hospitality industry and helps them to realise their career ambitions generating the leaders of the future.

The self-nominated award is open to individuals who are UK residents and able to work in the UK without restriction. Just one Scholarship is awarded each year to someone who demonstrates passion and potential and who is at a point in their career when winning the scholarship will make a real difference.
