A hospital trust in Nottingham has demonstrated that it IS possible to source quality ingredients in significant volume from small, local suppliers.
Can this really be achieved nationwide? If so, could this help relieve the burden of expected spending cuts in the next year?
Not a hope in hell - unless we're all going to live off potatoes, asparagus, strawberries and lamb. Mind you, that doesn't sound like such a terrible fate ... And then there's cheddar cheese, Great British Ale, honey, Scotch beef ... What the hell, let's give it a go!
I bet the main obstacle against more regions and hospital trusts adopting this approach is the logistical challenge probably seems too immense, so I think it's good that a trust has proved it can be done.
Potatoes, asparagus, strawbs and lamb? Sounds like the key ingredients of a Great British Menu!
