The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh raised a massive £23,000 for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres at a special feel-good fundraiser on Friday 4 February in its elegant Edinburgh Suite.
The lunch was attended by 330 ladies from across Scotland and featured truly inspirational speeches, including Barbara Turner, a centre user at Maggie’s Edinburgh, as well as Maggie’s Patron, Janet Ellis and Fred MacAulay who braved the all female event as host and went down a storm.
Sue Finlay, Director of Sales & Marketing at The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, said: “The team at The Sheraton Grand are all delighted to have smashed our target and raised an incredible £23,000 at our first lunch. The day was a huge success and I would like to thank everyone who contributed.
“The positive feedback from the ladies who attended has been overwhelming, with many asking if we will be running the lunch again next year. Our intention is to run the event again in 2012 with a view to making it an annual event.”
During the lunch guests were treated to relaxing hand massages, glasses of pink fizz and the opportunity to win a range of fabulous raffle and auction prizes including a five night trip to Morocco and a designer watch from Laing Watch Gallery.
As always, the chefs at the Sheraton Grand created an imaginative menu for the event including a specially designed ‘Sex Bombe’ dessert of Iced Raspberry and Passionfruit Parfait with Lime Meringue.
Marion Taylor, Maggie’s Edinburgh Community Fundraiser, said: “A fabulous day was had by all and that is very much reflected in the fantastic sum of money raised for the Centre. The Sheraton Grand team are wonderful supporters of Maggie’s Edinburgh and I can’t thank them enough for putting on such an enjoyable and worthwhile event. The £23,000 raised will go a long way towards helping fund the running costs of our Centre so that anyone affected by cancer can have access to free-of-charge practical and emotional support from cancer professionals.”
