For the second time this week I've listened to people talk about the increase in the number of hotels charging a discretionary service charge to the bill.  What are your thoughts?  Do you think customers should be expected to pay a seperate service charge, do you think customers are clear about what they are paying for when they are staying at a hotel?  If hotels are going to insist on adding service charges to customers bills, what do you think the impact will be on pricing, service and customers?

Would a hotel not levy the service charge if they let me collect my own breakfast from the kitchem, or make my own bed or perhaps check myself in?

no dont think so!

what next "thanks Sir, the tooth decay is now drilled out.. You can self fill when you get home or for a £10 dentist charge I can fill it for you" Hmmmm

the charge should be the charge- what extra do I get for my service charge?

We are in a Service Industry, for goodness' sake- we should not charge 'extra' for doing our jobs! What next- a smile levy?
