Training is an important part of any business – and despite the recession, it is crucial that all staff are up to date with their skills.

The National Skills Academy for Hospitality is dedicated to identifying, celebrating and increasing accessibility to excellence in training and development within the industry (www.excellencefound.co.uk)  and has teamed up with Disney Institute to host a five-day seminar in London next month.

There are three Disney Keys to Excellence programmes in leadership excellence, quality excellence and business excellence. The courses will be attended by 1,000 delegates from across the industry.

For more information on the seminars click here

Entry via The National Skills Academy for Hospitality has now closed, however users of Caterersearch.com and Table Talk have the chance to apply for one of six tickets.

All you need to do is reply to this thread with your training and development questions and/or experiences and your name will be entered into a draw to win a place at the seminar.

Personally I am trying to take more time to invest not just in my employees but in my own personal development - rather than getting sucked into the tunnel vision that comes with day-to-day running of my business.  A bit of perspective might be of good use. This sounds like a great opportunity.

Thanks,

Laura

Hi Katherine,

I currently manage a staff of 96 people and I want to be able to give them the chance to develop and learn to become the best that they are, through encouragement, mentoring and coaching I would like to continue to help my team climb the ladder. Within the past 3 years I have developed 9 memebers of staff climb the ladder to mgt level within my company. I also help and lecture at Leeds Met Uni as part of their programme dedicated to real life experiences. I am now a coach/mentor on their new one year leadership and mgt programme which will give the students the real life skills they will need in joining the industry. With most of my time busy running the restuarant, and little personal time dedicated to the university I have very little time to develop myself, this would be the perfect opportunity.  I would love to attend this course not only to broaden my knowledge but my way of thinking with both my staff and my students.

Please reply to this thread so I know this message was acknowledged. How will we be informed to let us know either way if we were successful to get one of these tickets?

Kind Regards,

Matthew Buckingham

Thank you Matthew for getting in touch.

It's great to hear that people in the industry still dedicate their time to the training and development of those up-coming in the industry, but sometimes this means that they often misses out on their own!

What is your background? You mentioned a restaurant - is that based up in Leeds?

As for the seminar, names will be selected at random - and I will contact them via e-mail.

I've worked in the industry since I was 14, now 30 years of age!!! I have very much focused on bars and resturants for most of my career and finding different ways of challenging myself. I run a large restaurant in Leeds city centre, and have been with it from the start, just over 3 years.  I suppose my next move will be to the big smoke, to battle a new restaurant concept that the company is trialling. I have recently been asked to help with writing and preparing our new training manuals and workbooks for all our new staff which is really exciting, so we can be sure all are staff have the right tools and information across the entire group of restaurants.

Many Thanks for getting back to me, when will the lucky people be informed?

Regards,

Matt
