I crunched throgh ants and scorpions at the Imperial Herbal restaurant in Singapore. I forewent dog in Vietnam, but did sample bat in Jakarta and pangolin in Borneo. But the weirdest? three-onion pizza in a staff restataurant a few years ago.

In Botswana, the mopani tree is special - it provides shelter, edible leaves, firewood and sculptured items AND mopani worms. They are boiled in a huge vat and are a local delicacy. They are 3 or 4 inches long, are eaten whole, have a thick hairy skin and a huge quantity of  their internal juices squirt out when you bite into them. The rest of the body, which tastes, I guess, like newspaper, takes quite a few minutes to chew and swallow. Canapes anyone?

A stinky fruit from the Philippines called Durian. Had to include it in our catering menu in Los Angeles so I tasted it. Wasn't really that bad
