With Compass landing the deal to cater at the Jockey Club Racecourses from later this year , it got me thinking about the rubbish food I've had at stadiums over the years (hot dogs with questionable meat content served with a warm over-priced beer at a certain West London football club spring to mind).
It also seemed beyond the wit of man to serve beer in a quick, efficient manor at the Foo Fighters at Wembley last year - so what gives? To be fair the bloke with the beer canister that shot himself in the face with a jet of lager at Sandown Park one time was worth the entry fee alone.
Anyone got some bad food memories they'd rather not bring up again?
I was at an Everton match a couple years ago and all they had was Chang beer, greasy sausage rolls and Scouse pies! I still don't know what is in a scouse pie... but it didn't look too good!
Chang beer. Quite a mystery that one. Despite being on the shirts of the boys in blue damned if I've ever seen it in a bar outside of Liverpool...
Had a microwave panini once (well half). Wasn't at a stadium but it was bloody awful all the same. Panini football stickers were good though...
Quite frankly I'd eat anything, but that probably doesn't suprise you.
At Sandown last year our expensive 'Premier tickets' for a concert included a free meal - we opted for curry, the queue was huge, we had to stand up to eat it and it wasn't very tasty and cold. I think I will stick to the standard cheaper tickets next year.
However at Ascot races last year the men carrying beer backpacks were a very welcome sight, I had a very unladylike pint of beer and it was lovely
Would you eat an Aardvark? Hope not, ant eaters are much better. Anything's better than rice cakes.
Ok, not a stadium, but the worst food I ever had out of home was the 'complimentary' sausage and chips you used to get at the Swan in Stockwell, as part of the £5 fee you paid to drink upstairs after hours. One grisly, gristly sausage and a handful of oven-chips that never numbered in the double figures.
Picula ad Caval
I think he lost the 2.30 .
Mine would be at Old Trafford a few years back..... warm Budweiser in a paper cup and microwaved pizza. Beautiful.
That'll explain why most of their supporters have never been there then!
