With all this freezing weather and hysterical news stories about 'travel chaos', I was wondering where the best place would be - whether its a hotel, restaurant or pub - to be stranded in the snow.
I reckon the Clachaig Inn in Glencoe would be pretty good - looks cosy and they ought to know how to cope with a few days of snow up there:
I think I would much rather be stranded somewhere warmer, thanks!
My cousin is currently stranded in Singapore on her way back from Oz. So being stranded somewhere hot, with good food, I'd be a happy bunny!
It would have to be a pub with rooms, definitely. And with a roaring log fire with an abundant supply of fire wood. And well stocked cellars and kicthens. I'm not asking for much, am I?
Anyone know where I can find a marvellous place like this?
Anywhere but an airport ... but one place that comes immediately to mind is the Parkers Arms at Newton in Bowland in the Ribble Valley. Meets all the requirements in terms of rooms, open fires, top food, good drink, gorgeous dogs, gorgeous setting.
In terms of proper hotels, for being stranded in, I reckon you couldn't beat Knockinaam Lodge, near Portpatrick in Galloway. Even in high summer, you're wonderfully cut off there, and they've a Michelin star and great-but-not-as-great-as-it-was cellar.
My choice would be Summer Lodge in Eversot, Dorset - cute and cosy, impeccable service, great food, a roaring fire and biggest selections of drinks you've ever seen. And if you want a change of scenery, it has its own pub - the lovely Acorn Inn - just a short stroll down the road.

Oh good choice Janet... I would be more than happy to settle down with a good book in that lounge!

Some great places - I would choose Indonesia - and a never ending supply of fresh fish and Iced tea.
