WiFi is freee to the public AFAIK in McDonalds, Most Wetherspoon pubs Starbucks etc. I guess 'free' as long as you buy something.
What is the consensus regarding hotels?
Travelodge charge £5.00 an Hour or £10 for 24 hours
Premier Travel Inn Charge £1.00 for 20 mins
My local Holiday Inn charges £6.00 initially and then £1.00 an hour
WiFi should be free everywhere, especially in hotels.
In this day and age, hotels, even the cheap budget ones, shouldn't get away with charging for it.
Aska: WiFi should be free everywhere, especially in hotels. In this day and age, hotels, even the cheap budget ones, shouldn't get away with charging for it.
Unfortunately the the Broadband suppliers don't see it like that and have a nasty habit of charging the Hotels restaurants etc for supplying the WiFi service.
WiFi should be free but it has to be paid for either up front or through adding the cost to the Hotel prices.
I guess in that case my real question is should everyone else be paying towards the cost of providing free WiFi for those who want to use it?
I agree with Aska. WiFi is not nearly as expensive as it used to be, so why can't all hotels offer the service? Any hotels, in particular, that have business travellers should have free WiFi or risk losing business - which is not an ideal situation to be in these days...
The good will engendered by free wifi, surely outweigh the annoyance factor and bad feelings generated by having to pay or 'nickel and diming it' as one hotelier i know might put it.
Being generous is part of the spirit of hospitality and esp in these times, it will be remembered by guests - good point or just naive, I'm not sure....
ps.. although not part of the debate exactly, but handily, here's a list of best and worst wifi suppliers....
