A TV advert for Premier Inn featuring Lenny Henry spoofing The Shining has been banned from children's TV after the Advertising Standards Agency ruled it was too scary for kids - after a whole eight complaints.
But is it really all that frightening? You'd probably have to know Jack Nicholson's scene from the 1980 original to get the reference, and let's face it, if children do get the reference, then they have seen much scarier stuff. If they don't get it, it just looks like a comedian hacking his way through a door. It's not hilarious, but it's not exactly terrifying either is it?

I agree, I don't think the ad is scary for kids - the original film was terrifying but kids should be too young to get the connection. However I can imagine the complaints may be from parents who are terrified their children may decide to copy Lenny Henry and start smashing through doors with an axe. If that's the case, surely they should hide their axe!
