Thai restaurant group Giggling Squid plans to grow to 50 sites

Thai restaurant group Giggling Squid is to open its fifth site in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, with plans to grow its business to 50 sites over the next five years.

Opening in November, the new restaurant will have 80 seats and serve Giggling Squid's menu of authentic, rustic and fresh Thai cooking with an emphasis on street food and coastal dishes.

It marks the start of the group's plans to expand the business north around the M25 and west along the M4 following sites in Brighton, Hove and Crawley in Sussex, and Tunbridge Wells in Kent.

Giggling Squid owner Pranee Laurillard said: "There are no national Thai restaurant chains despite the increasing popularity of the food - we are hoping to be the first. It's all about getting the food right."

Giggling Squid, which opened its first restaurant in 2009 in Hove, offers Thai tapas, with around 40 dishes available on its dinner menu. Its signature dish of "giggling squid" comprises steamed baby squid filled with minced chicken, squid and herbs with basil and chilli.
