Do graduate training schemes favour hospitality graduates?

I'm a recent Hispanic Studies graduate interested in working in the hotel industry. I'm looking to start my career via a graduate training programme. However, I feel I'm at a disadvantage, having not studied for a hospitality degree. Is this the case?

Many hotel or restaurant chains offer in-house training programmes for graduates.

While previous knowledge of the hospitality industry is an advantage, qualities such as enthusiasm, determination and desire to provide outstanding service can override lack of experience.

On-the-job experience coupled with training from an experienced mentor can clarify which areas you may wish to focus on, which can then lead to the opportunity to gain further qualifications, either through Modern Apprenticeships or by pursuing part-time studies at local colleges and universities.
