London set to gain 400 bedrooms

Bed stock in London is set for a substantial boost with the announcement of two major hotel developments.

French group Accor plans to convert a Pall Mall site into a Hotel Sofitel with around 200 bedrooms, while in a separate development, buyers are being sought for a proposed hotel conversion in Shepherd's Bush, west London.

The four-star Hotel Sofitel, due for completion by January 2000, will be in a vacant Grade II-listed building on the corner of Pall Mall and Waterloo Place.

Hammersmith Council, meanwhile, has just granted Jersey-based Oakmeeds Investments permission to convert Minford House in Charecroft Way, Shepherd's Bush, into a three-star, 217-bedroom hotel and 82-apartment apart hotel. Agent Christie & Co is seeking a buyer for the freehold interest at around £11m.
