Tender opportunity: catering and cleaning services at the Forum Theatre and Dock Museum, Barrow-in-Furness

Barrow Borough Council are pleased to offer for tender the catering and cleaning provisions at two of their visitor attraction venues. The opportunity is being offered as a five plus three-year contract and covers the Forum Theatre and the Dock Museum.

This is a really exciting opportunity to provide the catering at high-profile visitor attractions and, as such, the council is looking for suitably qualified and experienced catering companies who will develop the catering business and provide cleaning services. Interested parties should have experience in operating visitor attraction catering and a proven track record in excellent customer service and a high quality food offer.

Barrow-in-Furness is located in South West Cumbria, with a resident population of c69,000 people. The Forum is a Council-operated theatre offering a diverse range of events and activities, including a programme of local and touring live theatre entertainment as well as cinema showings, regular lectures, exhibitions and tasting nights. The building is primarily comprised of a 500-seat auditorium, a lecture theatre, a public café, restaurant, theatre bars and various conferencing and banqueting suites, accommodating up to 300 people.

The Forum café, open six days a week during the daytime, is located in the foyer area of the building and is a destination in its own right, acting as a hub for the community due to its central location and free access.

The Dock Museum is a free admission, Council-operated museum built in a historic 19th-century dock. The museum is home to a wealth of objects relating to the social and industrial history of the Furness area and attracts c60,000 visitors per annum, opening Wednesday to Sunday.

The lower floor of the Museum is occupied as office space by BAE Systems and there is a play area directly outside the Museum, leading to channelside walks. The public café is located at the entrance and exit to the museum and accessible separately.
