Canadian coffee chain quickens UK expansion

Canadian coffee chain Second Cup is opening three more UK sites this year, marking the beginning of a rapid expansion.

It is set to launch in Kensington, Cardiff and Swindon, after recently opening two new London branches.

Its latest branch, a two-storey 1,700 sq ft café with 67 covers, opened in Harrow's St Ann's Shopping Centre last week, and at the end of May a two-storey, 50-cover branch opened on Putney High Street.

The chain, which serves coffee, cold pressed juices and frozen yoghurt, also confirmed it was actively seeking new regional franchise partners for further UK development.

Second Cup opened its first UK outlet in Manchester in 2014, followed by sites in Birmingham and Portobello Road in London. The brand opened its first café in Toronto in 1975 and now operates more than 160 cafés worldwide.

Jim Ragas, president and CEO of Second Cup, said: "We are very excited about our continuous UK expansion and can't wait for all the new cafés to open. Growth, quality and innovation have always been at the cornerstone of our brand."
