Some Debenhams restaurant roles to be made redundant

Some Debenhams restaurant roles are being made redundant ahead of the retailer's planned reopening in two weeks.

Debenhams fell into administration for the second time in a year in April but has agreed deals with its landlords for 120 of its stores across the UK and is seeking to exit administration as a going concern.

All its sites in England where a deal has been agreed with landlords (approximately 90) are expected to open on or soon after 15 June. Sites in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are expected to follow once retail reopening dates are confirmed by their respective governments.

A Debenhams spokesperson said: "Debenhams' preparations to reopen the vast majority of its stores from 15 June are well under way following the successful conclusion of lease negotiations on 120 stores.

"In the context of a retail industry undergoing profound change, the management team is working on the future shape of the group, with a view to seeking an exit from administration as a going concern. With a leaner and more flexible operating model, Debenhams will have the ability to adapt to what are likely to be fundamental shifts in the future trading environment."
