UKHospitality advises hotels against accepting leisure bookings

UKHospitality has advised hotels against accepting any leisure bookings and recommended existing holidaymakers consider if they can leave premises.

The advice comes after the government stopped short of telling hotels to close on Friday, while saying their restaurants and bars should stop trading.

The industry trade body has advised hoteliers to only accept business from key workers, those on essential business travel and vulnerable workers.

The trade body stressed that rooms may be required for those essential workers who may be unable to stay at their homes or are required to move around the country as need arises.

Food for these guests must be delivered to rooms, unless there are exceptional reasons why alternative arrangements should be made.

Leisure and caravan parks have also been advised to ask residents to stay away or take up continual residence for the next 12 weeks, rather than travelling between dwellings.

The government is collating a central booking system for hotels willing to take NHS staff. To volunteer, email policy@ukhospitality.org.uk
