Sodexo lends support to Hoxton Apprentice

Thursday 12 March 2009 12:55

Contract caterer Sodexo has donated £13,500 to support a community kitchen restaurant at London’s Hoxton Apprentice.

The Sodexo Foundation has made the donation to Training for Life, the charity behind the Hoxton Apprentice, which will support four six-week training programmes.

The programmes will teach single parents, young people ands long-term unemployed people about the benefits and basics of nutrition and healthy eating, through a series of practical cookery workshops.

David Mulcahy, craft and food development director at Sodexo, said: “Cooking skills and healthy eating are central to so much of our work at Sodexo, it is always very satisfying when we can contribute to local communities sharing our craft expertise.

“In addition to gaining additional life skills, such programmes do encourage those from disadvantaged backgrounds to consider the hospitality and catering industry as a viable option for the future.”

The Hoxton Apprentice opened in 2004 with Prue Leith as patron and backing from Whitbread and Compass Group, which had now ended its sponsorship.
