National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year regional winners announced

Twenty one regional winners have been announced in the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Competition.

The winners will now go through to a further round of judging to determine the top 10 shops in the UK. These will then go head-to-head in the grand final in January next year.

Competition organiser Nikki Hawkins of Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish), said: "Each of the area winners can be hugely proud of getting this far in the competition.

"Our area winners are the best fish and chip shops in the country. They're constantly raising the bar on quality and standards. We now have to look closely at each of the area winners in order to find our top 10 finalists."

Nearly 276 million meals are sold each year from over 10,500 shops across the UK. Sales figures released by Seafish earlier this year also show that the value of sales has risen by 4.5% in the last year with consumers visiting their local fish and chip shops more frequently.
