Critic finds Hix Soho mediocre and unwelcoming
Celebrity chef Mark Hix's latest venture, Hix Soho, has failed to impress the Metro's food critic who argues the food is mediocre and the reception unwelcoming, unless you are a celebrity.
Marina O'Loughlin says that while she likes the look of the restaurant and praises the downstairs bar, the food isn't up to scratch.
"The food isn't good enough, ranging from ordinary to, well, grim," she says.
The Evening Standard's Fay Maschler is impressed with Italian restaurant Mennula, which she says serves food that is an unfolding celebration of chef- proprietor Santino Busciglio's Sicilian homeland.
Meanwhile Bloomberg's Richard Vines gives four new restaurants in Canary Wharf the thumbs up.
He regards Jamie's Italian as first class for a chain and calls Thomasina Miers and Mark Selby "food heroes" for what they have achieved at Mexican outlet Wahaca.
Vines adds that Japanese restaurant Roka is a fine location for celebratory meals and describes Canteen as doing a great job of serving uncomplicated British food of a quality that's still uncommon.
