Danny Meyer to open restaurant at Gramercy Park Hotel
Restaurateur Danny Meyer has teamed up with renowned hotelier Ian Schrager to launch a restaurant at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York.
Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group is set to open an Italian eatery at the five-star design hotel in Manhattan in the autumn.
The yet-to-be-named restaurant, which will be Meyer's first hotel project, will be housed in the street-level space previously occupied by Chinese restaurant Waikiya, which shut last December. It marks his first new launch since opening the Modern at New York's Museum of Modern Art in 2005.
Union Square Hospitality Group will also be responsible for the food and beverage operations elsewhere in the hotel, including room service, a private roof-top club and banqueting.
Meyer said he was "very intrigued by the opportunity to create a destination breakfast place for this neighborhood". "I love going to the Coffee Shop in Union Square, but it shouldn't be the only option within this Zip code," he added.
Schrager said: "I originally approached Danny about operating the restaurant when we reopened the hotel in 2005. But he was focused at the time on opening up the Modern."
